May Newsletter

The Market Is Open

May's headline feature is the Global Marketplace Interface — the GMI. Find a terminal, log in, and you're trading with the rest of Rubi-Ka. Buy orders, sell orders, price history, order-book depth. It's all there.

We launched it as a preview on the 3rd of May, and it's been running since. Up to 6 active listings per character while we monitor how the system holds up — we'll revisit that cap based on usage. Items go into escrow when listed, and the 1B credit cap still applies. It's a new system, so if something looks wrong, use .bug and let us know.

Stability — The Work Behind the Scenes

May was about making the server actually hold together under the weight of people using it.

We've pushed more patches this month than any before — crash fixes, disconnect fixes, team stability, client memory issues, NPC behaviour, you name it. A client patch on the 13th enabled Large Memory Allocation on the client side, which made a meaningful dent in the crashes people were seeing. Teams no longer randomly shed players mid-session. The most recent patch on the 28th also resolves a long-standing issue where players would periodically disconnect while in a team during active play — something that's been a thorn in the side of group content for a while. Long running play sessions no longer drop clients. It's been a lot of work, and there's still more to do, but May moved the needle significantly.

.mishroll Improvements

A couple of important fixes to .mishroll this month: prices are now tied to the QL of the item you're rolling for, and a minimum QL floor has been added to close off an exploit path. The command is working as intended now.

Roz Gets Smarter

The in-game helpbot Roz has received a batch of new commands this month, including info stats, wompah, whereis, and more. To see everything available: /tell roz help

Other Fixes

May covered a lot of ground on quality of life as well — death loops, GM flag issues on new characters, rooted NPCs teleporting to their targets, blind effects stacking permanently, casting being blocked after a root, SL loot gaps, and more. The full list is on the changelog.

A Note on High-End Content

We're aware of the outstanding issues in Inferno and Penumbra, and we haven't forgotten about them. That said, our focus this month — and in the near term — has been on the median playerbase. Most players aren't ready for Inferno yet, and making sure the experience is solid for the majority has been the priority while we scale.

We do want to hear about high-end bugs. What we've found less useful is reports that arrive primarily when they benefit one group's competitive position over another. If you're experiencing genuine issues in high-end content, report them using .bug. If it's an exploit, send a direct message to a GM instead.

Automation Bans

We carried out a round of bans for automation during May. Using bots or other tools to automate gameplay is not permitted on PRK, and we will continue to act on it. If you're unsure whether a tool you're using crosses the line, reach out to a staff member before using it.

Thank You

May has been a grind — a lot of invisible work that doesn't make for exciting patch notes but makes the game actually playable. The players who stuck around through the rougher patches, kept submitting bugs, and kept logging in made that work worthwhile.

See you on Rubi-Ka.
